FIREFIGHTERS responded to an apartment alarm in Caversham to rescue two adults and a twelve-week-old baby this morning.

Two crews from Caversham Road and Dee Road tackled the bathroom blaze from 6.20-8.45am which is thought to have been triggered by the shower unit or air vent.

The apartment in Crendon Court was evacuated safely with no harm done to the family and fire officers used the incident to highlight fire safety.

A Caversham Road spokesman said: "Because the alarm was in working order we were able to be alerted and prevent any further damage or harm being done to the family. Fire safety is a really important message to get out there and this is a good example of how they can save lives."
