POLICE are hunting a rugby fan who attacked a woman in broad daylight and wrestled her to the ground.
The 34-year-old victim was walking in Oak View, Tilehurst, shortly before 10.30am on Wednesday [18] when the middle aged man pounced, grabbing her arm, pulling down and pinning her to the ground, only letting go and running off when she screamed out in pain.
He is white, in his mid 40s, around 5ft 9ins tall, medium build with receding mousey, possibly greying, hair. He wore a white short sleeved England rugby shirt, with a red rose badge, denim stonewashed, knee length shorts, and gold rimmed tinted aviator-style glasses, and fled along the alleys leading to either Downing Road or Beverley Road.
The woman was not physically harmed in the attack but was badly shaken. Police, who are trying to establish a motive for the attack, believe the man could live in the neighbourhood.
PC Ian McCarthy said: "The alleyways used by the offender suggest he has some local knowledge and may well live nearby.
"I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw a man fitting the description in the area beforehand or running away from the scene afterwards to contact us."
Call PC McCarthy on 0845 8505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
