A CAR was severely damaged in a suspected arson attack this morning (Saturday).

A neighbour alerted firefighters after hearing a window smash and seeing the Volkswagon Golf on fire in Greencroft Gardens off Holmwood Avenue, Southcote.

One crew from Dee Road fire station rushed to the blaze at 5am and were there for about 20 minutes.

Watch manager Steve Andrews said: "We were rung quickly and we managed to deal with it. The rear of the car was severely damaged but the engine is fine."

He added that he believed it was deliberate.
