POLICE are investigating after a fire swept through a house in Caversham today.

Crews from Caversham joined colleagues from Dee Road and Wokingham Road to put out the blaze in Chaucer Close, off Surley Row, at 9.40am.

Crew manager Tony Smith said: "When we arrived, the ground floor was alight and spreading up to the rest of the house, which is a total loss."

Firefighters spent more than four hours tackling the incident and no-one was injured.
