TEACHERS, pupils and parents are pushing for the finishing line in a recycling race to support their schools.
Eco-friendly youngsters from across West Berkshire have until the end of March to lobby family members and neighbours to recycle their old Yellow Pages directories as part of a national competition.
Householders are urged to put the books in the green paper box at home and tear off the front cover to give to a pupil to take to school, signing it as proof that it has been sent for recycling. Participating schools can win cash prizes of up to £500.
Environment councillor, Hilary Cole, said: "When your new Yellow Pages has been delivered, please save a valuable resource from landfill while supporting schools."

Report commentMy Yellow Pages and Phone book went straight from the doorstep to the red bin without entering my house. I wish they would stop littering my garden with things that nobody uses any more.

Report commentOh dear... you've fallen for Yell's corporate greenwash! Really, there's nothing 'green' about tens of millions of unsolicited directories distributed every year. Plus, you've failed to mention that people with no need for paper directories can cancel the Yellow Pages by phoning 0800 671 444 or via junkbuster.org.uk (I bet Yell didn't mention that to you, did they?).
