MOTORISTS are bracing themselves for even more delays around the infamous traffic hotspot of Shinfield Road when three months of roadworks start tomorrow (Monday).

Wokingham Borough Council is closing Elm Road between Shinfield Road and Elm Lane while Southern Gas Network contractors carry out mains renewal work.

The closure is expected to last until May 30 and diversions will be in place along Shinfield Road, Lower Earley Way (West), Beeston Way, Rushey Way, Chalfont Way and Elm Lane. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the closure.

Council spokesman, James Sherwood, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience that this closure may cause."

Reading Borough Council is using the closure to finish a £25,000 traffic alleviation scheme, including reconfiguring the traffic lights which replaced mini-roundabouts in September last year, and adding a filter lane for vehicles turning left from Shinfield Road into Elm Road.
