POLICE are searching for the driver of a car found in the River Loddon today.
Officers and firefighters were called at 6.56am after a member of the public reported the incident, off Loddon Bridge Road in Woodley.
The silver Peugeot 206 was pulled out of the river by police, who want to know what happened to the occupants.
Police spokesman Craig Evry said: "It seems like the driver overshot the boundary of the river bank, as the car was halfway into the river. It was important to make sure that no-one was in the vehicle or the river, so firefighters checked the area using thermal imaging equipment."
A dog unit team was also called to the scene, but no one was found and officers ruled out sending in a search and rescue team.
Police are calling for any witnesses to the accident to come forward. Mr Evry added: "We are keen to know who was driving the vehicle and how this accident happened."
Anyone with information should call 08458 505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
