Man arrested in murder probe
MURDER detectives are quizzing a Katesgrove man in connection with the death of a man whose body was found lying on a riverside footpath.
The 35-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning, less than 24 hours since a walker found the body on View Island, Caversham, shortly after 9.30am yesterday.
A post mortem examination and formal identification are expected later today but officers believe the dead man was a 33-year-old who is known to them, and his next of kin have been informed.
Detective Chief Inspector Stan Gilmour said: "Our investigation has clearly made some significant strides forward both in terms of identifying the victim and making an early arrest.
"However, we are still at a relatively early stage of the investigation and we still need to speak to any witnesses who have not already come forward as a matter of urgency.
"We are running this investigation as a murder inquiry but I must stress that we are still waiting for confirmation of the cause of the man's death.
Police have ruled out the body being that of missing tug boat captain, Rob Munson, of the Thames and Kennet Marina, in Henley Road, Caversham, who has been missing for two weeks.
.Anyone with any information should call the police on 08458 505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
