YOUNGSTERS in Woodley were in for a treat with a special visit from TV star Chris Tarrant.
Hordes of students gathered at the school gates to meet the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? star, who presented a new wheelchair-accessible minibus to children with special educational needs at Addington School on Wednesday, February 9.
Mr Tarrant, who grew up in Woodley, said: "My mum still lives here so it's great to come back and give something back. This minibus will make a huge difference to the kids and will improve the quality of their lives. They are really amazing kids and I'm proud to be here." The £48,000 bus was provided by the Lord's Taverners, one of the UK's leading youth sports and disability charities, which boasts Mr Tarrant as its president.
Adrienne Jacobs, regional chairwoman of the Thames Valley Taverners, said: "We try to present one minibus a week to organisations like Addington School. Mr Tarrant is an unbelieveable support too."
Headteacher Liz Meek said: "It's been such a great day for the school. We like to get out in the community as much as possible because it's all about practising those skills, so the buses are crucial."
Reading East MP Rob Wilson added: "This is a fantastic boost for the children and the staff."
