Residents "not bothered" by festival's late running

CAVERSHAM residents have said they were not bothered by the late running of the Reading Festival's opening day.

Yesterday's headline act Guns N' Roses did not finish playing on the Main Stage until midnight, half-an-hour after the festival's usual cut off.

But residents living on the opposite bank of the Thames from the Richfield Avenue site said they did not mind.

Robin Gambles, who lives in Wychcotes and can hear the music from inside his house, said: "It's only three days of the year.

"It didn't stop me sleeping, I'd nodded off before it finished. I actually quite like it."

Another Wychcotes resident, who asked not to be named, said: "The only problem is the sound is not very clear.

"I was hoping to listen to Mumford And Sons but had to watch them on the TV instead."

Their neighbour, Balvinder Ghatahora, added: "I noticed it was over running but it was not a big problem. It happens once a year."

Elsewhere, in Woodcote Road, Jenny Harrison said she did not even notice the music was still going after 11.30pm, and added: "I think it's rather fun."

Chris Young, who lives off St Peter's Avenue, said: "It's only three days a year. I enjoy it, it certainly doesn't bother me."

Another St Peter's resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "It's neither here nor there. It's no bother, as long as they're not rioting."
