CAVERSHAM residents have said they were not bothered by the late running of the Reading Festival's opening day.
Yesterday's headline act Guns N' Roses did not finish playing on the Main Stage until midnight, half-an-hour after the festival's usual cut off.
But residents living on the opposite bank of the Thames from the Richfield Avenue site said they did not mind.
Robin Gambles, who lives in Wychcotes and can hear the music from inside his house, said: "It's only three days of the year.
"It didn't stop me sleeping, I'd nodded off before it finished. I actually quite like it."
Another Wychcotes resident, who asked not to be named, said: "The only problem is the sound is not very clear.
"I was hoping to listen to Mumford And Sons but had to watch them on the TV instead."
Their neighbour, Balvinder Ghatahora, added: "I noticed it was over running but it was not a big problem. It happens once a year."
Elsewhere, in Woodcote Road, Jenny Harrison said she did not even notice the music was still going after 11.30pm, and added: "I think it's rather fun."
Chris Young, who lives off St Peter's Avenue, said: "It's only three days a year. I enjoy it, it certainly doesn't bother me."
Another St Peter's resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "It's neither here nor there. It's no bother, as long as they're not rioting."

It's very loud in The West Village, Portman Road. The mess people have left bothers me more though.

Yeah, it's really clear in West Villiage, I was sat in the garden listening to Queens of the Stone Age on Friday! But it didn't bother me that GnR over ran - I was more bothered by the fact that I didn't recognise any of the songs when I popped out to have a listen!

It bothers me greatly. I live along Oxford Road and the noise is so loud I can hear it laying in bed. I'm actually up now as there is no point in me going to bed until it finishes. If that wasn't bad enough our local Tescos has no stock and is full of people, rude people I might add. Watched them throwing trolleys over Wednesday night. And a couple barged into me on Thursday while I was shopping. Add to that the fact many have just walked in front of the car, not bothering to look so we have had to break suddenley all througout the weekend means that the festival has been a big inconvience as usual. Wouldn't have been 'just a bit of fun' if we had ended up hitting someone!!!! I noticed you only asked people not too close to the site about the noise, neglecting to ask us people a lot nearer. You were probably afraid of the answers you would have got...

The noise on Friday in Caversham (Heights) wasn't too bad this year - I thought it was much louder last year. I do get annoyed with the almost Zombie-like state the festival-goers wonder around in - a constant torrent of them walk out in front of cars and just expect everyone to stop for them. This year, we left them to it and went away on Saturday morning until late Mon.

The noise from the festival rarely is as bad in Caversham for some reason. It could clearly be heard in Coley at 2.30am each night and it is a pain. Thankfully I did not have to try and catch a train on the Monday as the last time I tried I gave up after an hours queing. I really dont mind the festival coming to Reading but why is it needed to have recorded not live music playing until 4.00am, presumably the only reason is to sell more products and drink to the festival goers.
