CHUFFED Year 3 and 4 pupils at Caversham Primary School have shiny new play equipment just for them.

Students in the school council decided they wanted something solely for the seven and eight-year-olds to play on during the school day. And after their idea was approved by staff, the school's PTA funded the £6,500 project.

The equipment, which features stepping stones, a jungle bridge and balance beams and is 10 metres long, is available for all pupils to use before and after school hours.

Acting headteacher, Ruth Perry, said: "It is proving very popular, it's become a real focal point in the playground.

"The parents are very positive about it too because it gives the children something to do.

"It encourages them to take turns because they can't all be on it at the same time. Our value for the month is patience, so it teaches them to wait for their turn too."

Mrs Perry says staff are now planning to get a horizontal climbing wall for Year 5 pupils.
