Town prepares for soldier's funeral

READING Town Centre will come to a standstill on Tuesday afternoon for the funeral of corporal Richard Green.

Traffic chiefs have confirmed that all parking in St Mary's Butts will be suspended prior to the service, and the area will be closed to all traffic from 1.30pm.

The service is due to begin at Reading Minster Church at 2pm and is expected to last around 50 minutes.

It will be relayed to people outside who wish to pay their respects but cannot be seated in the church.

Corporal Green from Tilehurst was killed in action in the Sangin district of Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on March 2.

Following the service, the funeral cortege will will leave for a private burial service via West Street, Friar Street, Station road and into Station Hill.
