Four vehicle smash brings traffic chaos

A FOUR vehicle pileup closed the Theale by-pass tonight causing major hold-ups throughout the area.

The accident affected the northbound carriageway between the A340 Tidmarsh Road roundabout and Junction 12 of the M4. Paramedics were at the scene and the area was sealed off by police for nearly two hours but the condition of the occupants of the crashed vehicles is not yet known.

The by-pass was reopened to traffic just after 8.15pm.

There was also congestion for London-bound drivers on the M4 tonight after an accident involving a car and two lorries near Junction 7 at Slough West.

It produced tailbacks as far as Junction 10 at Winnersh and delays of up to 50 minutes caused by the closure of one lane.
