THE hard slog of the election campaign will surely take it out of MPs - but not as much as sprinting a mile round Westminster.

Reading East MP Rob Wilson joined nearly 40 of his honourable friends from the green and red benches of Parliament to run the Westminster Mile for Sport Relief on Wednesday last week, powering around St James's Park.

He hoped to inspire others to run over the Sport Relief Weekend starting on Friday, March 19 and running until Sunday, March 21, with participants choosing to run one, three or six miles.

He said: "Sport Relief does excellent work helping to transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people in the UK and abroad and I was delighted to have done my bit by taking part in the Westminster Mile."

Former England rugby star Kyran Bracken ran alongside the MPs and said: "MPs are usually found running for election so it was nice to see them running for a different reason!"
