Fresh power cut misery for Whitley Wood families

Comments (1) | Print | Email

MORE than 1,200 homes in the Whitley Wood area of south Reading were without power this evening after a network fault caused a major breakdown.

The lights went out just after 5.30pm as hundreds of families were preparing their evening meal and youngsters were watching their favourite TV programmes.

The blackout brought fresh misery to households in Whitley Wood which were also hit lasy Thursday during the afternoon and evening, and again on Friday morning.

Southern Electric engineers restored power some 90 minutes later.

The Hurricane Way area of Woodley was also hit by a power cut in the early hours of the morning which seemed to last for ages - accompanied by a local business's alarm which continued to sound for the whole powercut.

This isn't the first time this has happened, does anyone know who this alarm belongs to so the problem can be resolved? I understood that alarms should have an adequate battery backup so that they would not be affected in these circumstances?

(I am assuming it was not an elaborate theft scheme!!)
