FORMER Labour leader and Leighton Park school pupil Michael Foot has died at the age of 96.

Mr Foot's death was announced in the House of Commons today by Justice Secretary Jack Straw, who paid tribute to his skills as a Parliamentary orator.

From the Shinfield Road school, he went to Wadham College, Oxford, where he became President of the Oxford Union.

John Dunston head of Leighton Park said: "Michael Foot was a pupil here from 1927-1931 and he was a wonderful advocate of the Quaker values of the school he attended. He was a life-long pacifist and mover for peace which is at the heart of Qualker values and the teachings of this school. He was a man of enormous integrity and consistency and there's nt doubt the values of his schooling would have had a great impact on him.

"He maintained strong links with the school and played a big part in our centenary celebrations back in 1990."
