HUNDREDS of carers will march on Westminster for a national protest calling for greater support for their loved ones.

Reading carers will be among those travelling to London for the Carers Poverty Protest Group's rally which will wind it way from Trafalgar Square to the Houses of Parliament tomorrow (Wednesday) at midday.

The protesters will fight for a more generous Carer's Allowance, as many feel it is too little to live on, and the group has secured a committee room in the Houses of Parliament for people to speak to their local MPs.

Cross Street's Princess Royal Trust (Berkshire), which offers help and advice to unpaid carers across the county, will also attend.

The group's chief executive John Shaw said: "Research shows that caring can have a devastating financial impact on carers. We are pleased to be able to give local carers the chance to join the protest and make their voices heard."

Carers will depart from Reading Station at 9.30am on a Baileys of Newbury coach.
