SHOPPERS and residents are being warned not to give money or food to beggars in the centre of Caversham.
The village's neighbourhood policing team has noticed an increase in people begging and believes it is because the vagrants have been banned from Reading town centre.
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Debbie Smith said: "The situation is not being helped by generous members of the public who keep giving them money
and food.
"People can find begging very intimidating and the neighbourhood policing team is committed to improving the quality of life for those who work and live in Caversham."
