A CENTURY-old charity has come up roses with a modern-day celebrity.
Girls from Queen Anne's School in Caversham were visited by television presenter and style guru Lizzie Cundy to highlight the work of the Alexandra Rose Charities.
The school's head of student charities, pupil Alexandra MacKenzie-Smith, also presented a cheque for £1,250 to the cause's national director and past Queen Anne's pupil, Margaret Stock.
The sum was the proceeds of the independent school's student charity committee fundraising activities last term.
In July last year, an annual Rose Day event was launched when Queen Anne's head girls met London Mayor, Boris Johnson, to sell him a rose.
The Rose Day tradition began with Queen Alexandra, who set up the charity in 1912.
The organisation supports children, people with disabilities, vulnerable adults, at-risk people of all ages, ex-service personnel, the lonely, the elderly and the bereaved.
Margaret said: "It is wonderful to be back at the school as my time here was very special."
