Tools saved in van fire

AN ELECTRICIAN'S tools were saved by firefighters when his van caught fire early this morning.

A crew from Dee Road fire station in Tilehurst was called to the Vauxhall Astra van in Hatford Road, Southcote at 2am and spent 30 minutes putting out the flames and rescuing the tools.

Firefighter Rob Read said: "We managed to get most of them out without any damage."

It is not known how the fire started.
