A WHITLEY man was lucky to escape serious facial injuries after thugs launched an unprovoked attack.

The 49-year-old was walking along Basingstoke Road close to Morrisons on Monday [1] last week 10pm when he passed two men play fighting.

The pair chased him before grabbing his coat and one punched him in the face several times, only running off when two passing cars sounded their horns.

Reading police station's PC Melissa McMahon said: "Fortunately the offender was only able to connect with one glancing blow so the victim did not suffer any significant injuries."

His attacker is mixed race, around 6ft 4ins tall, of broad build and has an angular face.

Contact PC McMahon on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
