FIREFIGHTERS rescued eight people today [23] when two lifts broke down on different business parks in south Reading.

A crew from Whitley Wood fire station went to the aid of two people trapped in Longwater Drive at Green Park and another six people in another office block at Imperial Way in Worton Grange.

Both groups were rescued within five minutes of the firefighters' arrival and engineers were working on the mechanical faults this evening.
