THESE two partners in crime are set for the ride of their lives when they take part in a charity jail break challenge.

Simon Painter from Woodley, and his friend David Wood, from Stroud, will sport orange boiler suits when they set off from Manchester University in aid of childrens' cancer charity Kidscan.

The double act will compete against 100 other cronies with 30 hours to flee as far as possible from a designated starting point by any means necessary but they are forbidden to spend any money or enlist the help of family or friends.

The challenge begins on Friday, October 30, at 4.30pm.

They must 'blag' their way onto trains, planes and cars and rely on people's kindness and generosity to find food and drink.

The pair, who speak basic French and German, will carry an emergency credit card and mobile phone, plus passports and travel documents.

Mr Painter, an IT operations manager who works for Blue Arc in Bracknell said: "We are looking forward to the fly-by-the-seat of your pants adventure of it. Thirty hours is a long time and with no money to spend so we are going to have to rely on charm and persuasion. Teams have got as far away as Australia or New Zealand before."

The pair will update their progress on Twitter and use a satellite tracking system so their friends can follow their route on the internet.

Mr Wood, who works as a charity fundraiser for the Meningitis Trust, said: "Our nightmare scenario is that we end up stuck in a service station just outside Manchester with no food for 30 hours!"
