TAP dancers stepped closer to their dream at a fundraising performance on Saturday evening.

Youngsters from dance company Tap Attack, including members of the England team, are helping to raise £40,000 for the national squad to compete in the tap dance world championships in Germany in December.

Tap Attack founder and coach Jo Scanlan, who holds the Guinness World Record for fastest tap dancer, said: "There are a lot of costs involved in running a team and we don't get any public funding so we raise everything ourselves to cover travel costs, equipment, costumes - everything."

The 23 youngsters aged 12-20 performed at Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School in Fawley Road, Southcote, with live music, a raffle and auction and raised £3,000.

The dance team includes school pupil Sarah Houlton, 14, who was presented with Blessed Hugh Farringdon's annual award for excellence in the performing arts last month.
