FOUR candidates have applied to stand for the Lib Dems in the Reading West parliamentary seat at the next election, the Chronicle understands.
The party needs a replacement for former prospective parliamentary candidate Patrick Murray, who quit in August.
Applications had to be in by Friday and a source told the Chronicle that four people had thrown their hats in the ring.
But Greater Reading Lib Dem chairman Coling Lawley would only confirm that "several" people had applied, including one local person and one who lives "reasonably" near.
The date for a hustings for local party members to pick the candidate has not been set, but Cllr Lawley said he or she would be in place by Christmas.
The seat is held by Labour's Martin Salter who is retiring at the next election. Labour selected Naz Sarkar to fight the seat for them at the next election.
