A GLITZY awards ceremony will celebrate female success and raise money for Sue Ryder Care's hospice in Nettlebed.

The charity's Women of Achievement Awards raised £23,000 last year, to help the hospice care for 1,000 people a year from Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Tickets are on sale for the event at Phyllis Court Club in Henley on Thursday, November 19. Organiser Sarah Smith said: "All money raised from ticket sales will help us continue to deliver quality and expert care to people living with serious illnesses, as well as their families and loved ones. By coming along to the awards ceremony, local people are not only supporting fabulous women living within local communities, but helping us make a real difference to the lives of the hundreds of people we care for each year."

Four women will be shortlisted for each of the four awards and invited with a guest to the ceremony, sponsored by Henley-based Invesco Perpetual. The award categories are Care and Community, Education and Enterprise, the Arts and Recreation, plus an additional Lifetime Achievement Award. Home furnishing company Peter Green, which has a store in south Reading, is sponsoring the Arts award and its managing director Susan Noone said: "We are supporting Sue Ryder Care through our corporate responsibility programme this year because it is such a fantastic cause and it is also recognising women of achievement."

The closing date for nominations is Monday, October 19. Tickets cost £80 each or a table for 10 is £750, including a champagne reception, three course meal and entertainment.
