MUSLIMS are welcoming members of other faiths and none to learn more about Ramadan on Thursday.
Members of South Street Mosque in Reading have invited Reading Interfaith Group to join them for a Celebrating Ramadan evening of prayers and food.
Sarah Griffin, chairwoman of the interfaith group, said: "This will be an opportunity to hear them talk about their beliefs, way of life and the reasons why they will be fasting at this time of year.
"This event will be kept as informal as possible to encourage dialogue and conversation."
Muslims fast throughout each day during the month of Ramadan, celebrating the first revelation of the Koran, and ending the month with the festival of Eid ul-Fitr.
Visitors are invited to arrive at 6.30pm to start the free event at 7pm with an introduction to the month of Ramadan and fasting, followed by Du'as (supplications) before a call to prayer and Iftar, breaking the day's fast with dates, fruit and water.
Guests can then observe Salat-ul-Maghrib (prayers in congregation) before conversation and dinner in groups, finishing at 9pm.
Attendees are asked to dress modestly and to ask for help or to lean against a wall if they have difficulty in sitting on the floor during the service.
