A READING policewoman accused of moonlighting as a £150-an-hour prostitute has resigned.

Thames Valley Police today confirmed that WPC Ruth Carter handed in her notice voluntarily and that an investigation is under way after the claims about her double life appeared in The Sun newspaper this morning.

The national newspaper claimed one of its reporters booked the 27-year-old mother, through Bracknell-based Top Hat Escorts, and arranged to meet her at a hotel in Warfield.

The report goes on to claim that the paper has video footage of Carter, who is thought to have been on maternity leave after giving birth in June, offering sex in return for cash.

A spokeswoman for the escort agency, who asked not to be named, said: "We were not aware that she was a policewoman". She declined to comment any further.
