KENNET Morris Men have given their backing to the campaign to reopen a canalside pub.
Dozens of people turned out to watch the stick and handkerchief Cotswold dances outside the shuttered Jolly Anglers on Monday, have a drink and buy T-shirts featuring the new Jollydarity campaign logo.
Morris squire Peter Jones said: "It was a centre for the local community to gather in and it is a great shame that it is closed."
The pub in Newtown closed without warning in June after Enterprise Inns sold it to an unnamed buyer but pub regulars are hoping the Jollydarity campaign will get the Kennetside venue re-opened.
It was one of the places the Morris men danced during their 50th anniversary celebrations two years ago and was on their regular circuit.
Morris dancer and Campaign For Real Ale supporter Brian Jones said: "The dance is to keep people remembering what is going on."
The agent for the pub's new owner told the Chronicle that it had been sold with a restrictive covenant banning its use as a public house.
