Why weight? Take action

A MUM was so impressed with her diet course that - three and a half stone lighter - she is now helping other people to do it.

Gai McNeile joined Weight Watchers in June last year and by the New Year had a new shape and was enjoying being more active with her family.

In April she became a group leader and she said: "I just wanted to be able to help other people feel as good as I feel. It just changes your life completely. I didn't realise how much being the size I was affected my lifestyle."

Mrs McNeile, from Twyford, said she had always been fairly big but after son Henry was born five years ago, she found she was snacking more to fit in with his eating patterns.

The decision to change came after a holiday in France with her parents last year. She said: "We had a lovely holiday drinking lots of local wines and eating cheese and I just decided when I got back and saw the photos I needed to do something about my weight.

"My mother has high blood pressure and had heart attacks in her forties. I was approaching my 40th birthday and decided I had to take action."

Mrs McNeile joined a Weight Watchers group in Woodley and said: "I didn't have to change my lifestyle too much. I had to watch my portion size and eat more filling foods, because then I was less likely to snack on sugary things."

The new menu reduced her cholesterol she said: "The whole family is much healthier now. We are making wiser food choices now and have more energy."

It has also meant a new wardrobe for Mrs McNeile, who at 5ft 10ins now wears size 10-12 instead of 18-20. Several of her friends have also joined the programme and Mrs McNeile leads a 10-11am session on Saturdays at the Centrepoint Youth Centre near ASDA in Lower Earley and a 7-8pm session at Sainsbury's in Winnersh.
