A BUS service which takes villagers to and from Newbury is increasing its frequency.

The number 75 service, which is operated by D J Travel under contract from West Berkshire Council, will now run three days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, rather than the previous two.

The route will also be expanded to cover Beenham, Douai Abbey and Upper Woolhampton and will continue to serve Mortimer, Burghfield, Ufton Nervet and Sulhamstead.

The new service timetable is: Beech Hill (The Elm Tree), 9.25am; Mortimer Library, 9.30am; Stephens Close, Mortimer, 9.32am; Burghfield Rising Sun, 9.37am; Hawksworth Road, 9.39am; Clay Hill Shops, 9.42am; Ufton Nervet Church, 9.50am; Sulhamstead Turn, 9.55am; Beenham Village, 10.02am; Douai Abbey, 10.10am; Upper Woolhampton, 10.15am, Newbury Post Office, 10.35am; Newbury Bartholomew Street,10.36am.

Newbury Bartholomew Street, 1.15pm, Upper Woolhampton S; Douai Abbey S; Beenham Village S; Sulhamstead Turn 1.55pm: Ufton Nervet Church 2pm; Clay Hill Shops 2.08pm; Hawksworth Road, 2.11pm; Burghfield Rising Sun, 2.13pm; Stephens Close, 2.18pm; Mortimer Library S; Beech Hill (The Elm Tree) S. (S = set down only).

The news came only days after Newbury Buses announced fare increases of up to 40p on some journeys and reduced the frequency on its Vitality routes from every few minutes to running to every half hour.
