THE Erleigh Road bottle bank will be emptied weekly from now on.
The glass recycling facilities were the first to be installed in Redlands ward last year but the fortnightly collections led to constant overflowing bins. Now Reading Borough Council has agreed to make them weekly.
Ward councillor Daisy Benson said: 'The bottle bank on Erleigh Road has proved very popular with students and residents and last July we reported that they were regularly overflowing. During the past year residents have been contacting us asking for the banks to be emptied more regularly.'
Cllr Benson contacted the council every time she had reports of the overflowing bottle bank and last week was told that the council has asked the contractor to switch to weekly collections.
She said: 'Judging from the feedback I"ve had so far people living in the area are very pleased. I wish it hadn"t taken the council a year to listen to residents and sort this problem out but I"m glad to have played a small part in making life a little more pleasant for people who live in this area.'
