Campaigners will fight closure hook, line and sinker

FURIOUS pub-goers shocked by the sudden closure of The Jolly Anglers have stepped up their fight to get it reopened.

A campaign group on social networking website Facebook has nearly 100 members and they are meeting from 6.30-8pm in The Retreat on Sunday to plan a strategy. Campaigner Cathy Marsden said: 'Please come along and show your support. To get this great community pub reopened we will have to work together. Let"s not stand by and watch another good pub die.' John Westendorp, landlord of the pub in Kennetside, Newtown, was told at 2pm on June 16 that it was closing that night and three days later, owner Enterprise Inns confirmed it had sold it to an unnamed buyer. Campaigners say they are ready to battle any applications for a change of use. Enterprise Inns have declined to comment on the rumours it is being sold for housing.
