AN investigation has been launched following the death of a baby boy in Sonning Common on Tuesday.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in relation to an incident at an address in Sedgewell Road.

A post mortem on the fourth-month-old baby is due tomorrow (Friday)

The baby was admitted to the Royal Berkshire Hospital on Monday night and was later transferred to Oxford"s John Radcliffe Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Thames Valley Polce spokesman David Paull said: "Thames Valley Police was contacted by Oxfordshire Social Services at around 10.05pm on Monday (29/6) reporting that a four-month-old boy had been admitted to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was then transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the JR2 Hospital in Oxford where he was pronounced dead at 3.48am Tuesday (30/6).

Det Supt Karen Trego, leading the investigation, said: 'We are still in the very early stages of the investigation and at this stage it is still not clear how the baby received the injuries.'
