THE Alzheimer"s Society is urging people to take a moment out of their busy lives and have a cup of tea.
The Society wants community groups and businesses to hold a Tea Day as part of Dementia Awareness Week which starts on Sunday[5], so people can consider simple lifestyle changes to reduce their risk of dementia.
West Berkshire branch chairman John Farrin said: 'Besides the chance to relax with a cuppa, this is a great way to take time out and think about the positive changes you can make to your life changes that can make a difference. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing - there are steps people can take to reduce the risk.'
He said people should stay active, eat healthily, not smoke and get regular blood pressure and cholesterol checks.
There are 1,300 people in West Berkshire with dementia, which is anticipated to rise to 1,900 by 2021.
