FIRE chiefs have warned of blazes spreading easily in this week"s hot, dry weather.

A crew from Dee Road were called out yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon to deal with a fire on the footpath that links The Meadway and Stoneham Close in Tilehurst.

Crew manager John Murby said: 'It was a pile of logs and a sofa and pretty much everything was burned out when we got there. Thankfully it didn"t spread into too big an area but in this weather that"s always a risk. It could easily have spread and people need to be extra careful.'

Officers were called out around 1.30pm and spent around 20 minutes dealing with the fire.
