A DRIVER and his young child had a lucky escape from a car fire in Calcot this morning (Wednesday)
The driver of a Renault Megane pulled over on Bath Road near Calcot Golf Club at around 11am because smoke was coming from behind the dashboard.
Crew manager John Murby from Dee Road Station said: 'The driver had pulled into the layby and taken his small child home because he lived near by, when he came back we were there because someone else had seen it and called us, and the dash had completely melted in a fire caused by an electrical fault.
'Because the driver wasn"t there when we arrived we had to break into the car and use a hose reel to put out the fire.'
Ends.
