SWINE flu has hit schools in Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire this week.

Four schools have been affected but none have yet had to close.A teacher at Waingels College, Woodley became the latest confirmed case on Tuesday afternoon, just hours after a pupil at Kendrick School in Reading had been diagnosed.

Leighton Park School on Shinfield Road confirmed on Monday that it has a student with swine flu and a further two displaying symptoms after contact with the confirmed case. All three were given anti-viral drugs and sent home, while 51 staff members and other students were also offered anti-viral drugs.

Downe House School in Thatcham also confirmed a case of swine flu on Monday. Tony Delaney of NHS Berkshire West said: 'We would like to assure people that this type of flu is still very rare in the UK and we are continuing to work to slow the spread of the disease.'
