THREE PUPILS at a Reading school have been struck by swine flu, taking the total number of cases in Berkshire West to 21.
Leighton Park School confirmed on Monday that it has one student with swine flu and a further two with 'clinically presumed cases" - displaying symptoms after contact with the confirmed case.
All three students have been given anti-viral drugs and sent home. Fifty one staff members and students have also been offered antiviral drugs, but health bosses say the independent school on Shinfield Road does not need to close.
A letter from head teacher John Dunston to parents said: 'If any pupil develops flu-like symptoms and a high temperature during school they will be isolated and our Health Centre staff will take the appropriate action. Day pupils who fall into this category will need to be collected from the school and Heath Centre staff will contact parents concerned to make arrangements for this. We must reiterate the importance of keeping day pupils at home if they show any flu-like symptoms. Boarders will continue to be monitored by the house matrons.'
