A WOMAN was left bleeding following an assault in Reading Town Centre.

The 44-year-old from Whitley, suffered a cut lip and her face was covered in blood following the attack in Weldale Street on Friday afternoon at around 4.30pm.

Her handbag was also knocked to the floor, causing the contents to spill onto the pavement, but nothing was taken.

PC Helen Purnell said: 'Although we have arrested two women in connection with this assault, I am still very keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

'We know that the victim was helped by some members of the public and I would be keen to trace them to see if they have any information that could help with our investigation.'

A 19-year-old woman from Coley and a 23-year-old woman from Whitley have both been released on bail to return to Loddon Valley police station on August 3.

Anyone with any information can contact PC Purnell on 0845 8 505 505 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
