SUCCESSFUL councils are getting Government cash boosts to spend as they see fit.

But although Reading and Wokingham councils are getting a cheque in the post, West Berkshire has been left high and dry.

The money, from the Local Authority Business Growth Incentives Scheme which has been running since 2006, goes to councils seen to be successfully promoting economic growth.

Government spokeswoman Shelley Naylor said: "The local authorities receiving the money are those which have seen increases in business rateable value against historic levels - those ones which haven't achieved this do not get the money."

Local Government Minister John Healey said: "I am pleased to be able to confirm the share of £100m that councils will get, with no strings attached and extra to the core grant they receive, which will be a real boost to councils' coffers as they provide much-needed support to their communities - particularly in these tough economic times."

HOW MUCH ARE THEY GETTING?

Reading - £22,870.98

Wokingham - £124,834.74

West Berkshire - £0

Bracknell Forest - £174,142.45

Slough - £55,898.23

Windsor & Maidenhead - £97,561.11
