SHOCKED commuters watched as police stormed a train at Reading station this morning to arrest a suspected gang of armed robbers.

Police and railway staff were on the lookout for a number of men after a reported robbery near the station last night.

Reading police area commander Superintendent Steve Kirk said: "Two trains were held at the station while officers searched for the men.

"While this caused delays for commuters, it was vital that we ensured the safety of people travelling on the trains.

"We have recovered what is believed to be a firearm from one of the carriages."

Police had been called to a house in Salisbury Road at 11.30pm following a report that four men, their faces covered with scarves and balaclavas, had forced their way in, threatened the occupant and stolen goods including cash, phones and wallets.

Police searched the area during the night and and just after 6am this morning they surrounded a train at Reading station

Officers boarded the train and arrested two men aged 17, one aged 19 and a 22-year-old, all from London. They are being questioned at Loddon Valley police station.
