Road closed after car pile-up
A THREE-CAR smash forced the main road linking Pangbourne and Theale to close for four hours.
A Vauxhall Vectra, Renault Scenic and Volkswagen Golf were involved in the crash on the A340 Tidmarsh Road outside Englefield House at 10.30pm on Friday. The Renault driver and his wife, with their children aged five and one, were taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Ambulance spokeswoman Ngozi Fakeye said a 27-year-old
passenger in the Vectra was kept in hospital with serious leg injuries. The Vectra driver, also 27, was treated for concussion.
Firefighters from Newbury and Tilehurst's Dee Road station helped free the injured and made the area safe but the A340 between the Common Hill and Englefield Road junction was not re-opened until 2.28am on Saturday.
