WORK by youngsters who studied at a Caversham school has caught the eye of wealthy art lovers in London.

Paintings and sculptures produced by girls at Queen Anne's School for their A-level coursework were displayed at SW1 Gallery for five days for the school's annual Foundation Art Exhibition.

The event gives girls a professional forum to present their work to the public alongside pupils from schools which are also members of the The Grey Coat Hospital Foundation and The United Westminster Schools Foundation.

Former Queen Anne's head girl, Elizabeth Style, sold three of her pieces to a corporate buyer for a four-figure sum, while Leila Kenny has sold her painting entitled Water and Elena Fleming had two bidders interested in buying her Bumper Cars painting.

Also among the paintings and sculptures causing a buzz were works by Gabriella Smailes, Jessica Ingram, Jia Ni Liu, Grace Jenkins, Alexandra Cook, I-Chen Wu, Amelia McCormack and Olivia Faulkner.

Virtually all the girls' items are A-level pieces created in Queen Anne's School's new Elliot Art And Design Centre, where older pupils can work uninterrupted in dedicated studios.

Headteacher Julia Harrington said: "We are delighted that our girls continue to produce artwork of such a high calibre.

"Exhibiting at a professional London gallery provides girls with valuable experience and they are thrilled by the level of interest shown by visiting members of the public."
