A £250m building project at the University of Reading has started with the swing of a wrecking ball.
Whiteknights Hall on the Whiteknights campus has been razed to the ground, the first phase of the university's plans to redevelop its student accommodation.
The work is part of the university's Whiteknights Development Plan 2008-18, which details proposals to build a new halls of residence on the site of the former Whiteknights Hall and a second next to the current Childs Hall.
A planning application for a flexible hub building for the two halls of
residence, including student catering outlets, a launderette, social spaces and offices is also due to be submitted later this month.
The university has appointed construction firm Morgan Ashurst for the project.
