A complaint has been lodged with the police watchdog after allegations were made that a man suffered from excessive force when he was arrested in the town centre last summer.

The incident involved three officers who were attempting to detain a male in Broad Street at around 9.10pm on June 19.

An IPCC spokesman said: “The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating an allegation of excessive force by three officers during the arrest of a man on 19 June 2014, following a complaint to the IPCC on 14 January 2015.”

Due to the nature of the complaint the organisation said it would not reveal any further details at this time.
