A MUM has spoken out after her son was attacked twice by a dog in Theale.

Schoolboy James Wells was out with friends at Theale skate park when a dog ran up and bit him on the leg on April 4.

The 11-year-old tried to run away, but the dog chased him and bit him again on his other thigh.

After the attack, the dog returned to its owner, who called the dog over but made no attempt to console James after the incident.

His mum Sharon said: “I can’t believe she just stood there and watched it all happen and did not see if James was OK. He had to walk home with both his legs bleeding.

“I opened the door to him crying and saying 'Mum I’ve been bitten by a dog’. We took him straight to the hospital to get checked out and he was given a course of antibiotics. It certainly was not the best start to his Easter holidays.”

The owner is described as a woman in her forties, wearing a hat and a red knee-length coat.

The mother-of-three said: “I don’t think he really realised what had happened until he saw the blood. He shouted at the woman 'you should have that dog on a lead’, but he is like that, he’s 11 going on 40.”

Sharon added: “My real concern is that the skate park is right next door to the children’s play area. James’s thighs are about the height of a three-year-old’s face, and if that dog continues to attack children, next time it could be a little one’s face.”

The dog is described as white and light brown and there is still confusion over the breed. Sharon said: “We now think the dog was a greyhound type, but we still do not know and this is the problem.”

The family continues to visit the skate park with James to try and identify the animal.

She said: “I’m not sure how the incident will have affected James mentally because we have not come across the dog yet. I don’t know how he’ll react when we do.”
