Taylor Wimpey homes have put forward plans for 120 houses on the former Elvian School site off Bath Road, leaving enough room remaining on the plot for The Wren’s bid to open a free school.

A High Court hearing last June threw out the developer’s original proposal to build 182 homes on the site and ruled there should be 60/40 split use of the land in favour of educational facilities.

However, as plans are yet to be approved and the school’s leaders still await confirmation of funding from the Department for Education, the future of a new school on the land is still not certain.

Residents and parents will have the chance to look at the plans in more detail at public meetings today (Thursday) as a second development of 70 homes and a play area in Coley Avenue are also put forward. Sia Israel, marketing manager for The Wren, said the move was welcome.

She said: “We were pleased to see the initial layout for the school site which Taylor Wimpey shared with Wren in December 2014 and we’re now looking forward to meeting with Taylor Wimpey this week to discuss their current proposals.

“Taylor Wimpey’s plans are based on the 60 per cent education and 40 per cent residential development split recommended by the planning inspector at the public inquiry and demonstrate that a school is completely viable on the Elvian/Presentation College site.”

Andy Barron, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey West London, said: “We are confident that we have developed the right solution for the benefit of the whole community and we look forward to giving local people the chance to find out more about what we have planned.”

Plans for the Southcote site will be available today from 4pm to 8pm at Grange United Reformed Church, Circuit Lane. The Coley Park plans will be on show at the same time in Coley Park Baptist Church, Wensley Road.
