The man in his sixties and his partner, thought to be in her fifties, had only recently checked into The Forbury Hotel in the town centre when their bodies were discovered yesterday afternoon.

Police have confirmed they are investigating two cases of unexplained death which are not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

The pair are thought to be from a nearby town but are not thought to live in Reading.

Ambulance officers and three fire crews from Reading were all in attendance at the hotel in The Forbury yesterday after Thames Valley Police were called at around 2.40pm.

Specialist crime scene investigation officers spent the afternoon taking photos and collecting evidence from the property but the hotel and adjoining restaurant remain open as usual.

A spokesman for the Berkshire Coroner’s office said post mortem examinations were due to be carried out tomorrow and the inquest opened and adjourned later in the week.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said that next have kin were not yet informed, they said: “These are being treated as unexplained deaths but not suspicious.”

The hotel declined to comment on the deaths.

Dinner, bed and breakfast in the top suite costs £355 per night in the hotel which has 23 luxury rooms spread over three floors.

Each room has Egyptian cotton sheets on all king size beds, with complementary Molton Brown toiletries and Nespresso coffee machines in every bedroom.

The company’s website boasts “your stay at The Forbury promises an indulgent and relaxing experience”.
