A memorial service will be held tomorrow for well-known and hard working member of the Caversham community.
Jennifer Millest died on November 8 last year and the memorial service will be held at St John’s Church, Gosbrook Road, from 3pm.
Jennifer moved to Caversham in 1992 and quickly became involved in the local community.
The service will reflect on her many different interests, including her work for Caversham and her professional life as an architect.
She worked for Lord Esher on his estate at Watlington Park before going on to design award-winning schools and old people homes for Berkshire County Council. Later, she became the expert for the Sports Council on artificial pitch and track surfaces.
At University in Liverpool in the 1950s, she developed an interest in bellringing and in collecting and reviving clog and step dances. This was to be a life long interest and her work was recognised across the country. She was a founder member of the Reading Traditional & Step Dance Group, which was affectionately known as the Reading Cloggies, now the Albrickham Clog and Step Dancers.
The service on Tuesday 20 January will pay tribute to these wide ranging interests and to her love of boats on the River Thames. All welcome.
